We are starting to venture down various domains of interest — we start digging deeper, into the world, into ourselves.

Two months ago, I published an article about “shopping for experiences” which discusses the rising need of consuming experiences and acquiring delicate real life moments within the millennials community.

Why do we spend our weekend brushing a canvas with friends? Why do many of us spend more money to stay in a village hut while travelling, instead of booking a good ol’ hotel? Why do we develop a habit of looking beyond the mere physical presentation of an object and question its origins or its future?

It is because we can, and are universally inspired to do so.

When our basic needs are getting easier to be fulfilled, and it’s increasingly convenient to stay informed about new ideas, concepts and trends. We start venturing down other domains of interest — we start digging deeper, into the world, into ourselves.

In this article, I would like to discuss how we can together facilitate “shopping for experiences” by utilising the ability to create an experience from everyone. This requires a revolution, starting with a change.

The Experiential Revolution

Throughout human’s evolution and civilisation, we have witnessed more than a dozen of revolutions that define how we live today. The most prominent one in recent years has to be the internet revolution that connects billion of people around the globe.

A revolution is a change in nature. Oftentimes, a change starts when awareness of the need for such a change arises, and the subject leading the change is able to do so.

The internet revolution was created by the realisation that people are able to connect, communicate and socialise digitally. On that foundation, its most celebrated implementation, the social media, was formulated.

So the internet was the tool, what was the need? Turned out, it made a lot of sense to being able to find a long lost childhood friend, or knowing what our closed ones are up to. If there hadn’t been such a need, Facebook couldn’t have been such a global success.

The Experiential Revolution, as I propose in this article, conforms to such mechanism. First, it has a source for change, stemming from our curious mind for knowing more. We love to experience, to find meanings beyond objects or interactions. Second, it has an engine manufactured for us to start driving the change: the sharing economy.

The sharing economy

Millennials are living in a sharing-economy world where many kinds of resources can be shared and utilised together. One can share a room to a stranger on Airbnb or give a random person a ride on Uber.

Sharing resources like homes and rides are almost globally recognised and widely facilitated. These resources are assets that we see and value extrinsically. What about something inherently intrinsic that we often overlook: our knowledge and free time?

Could we facilitate sharing such a personal resource too?

Could we instill and enmesh in a world full of experiences, created and shared by everyone?

As founder of Vibeji, with admitted love and favour for the platform, I would say yes, because of our natural ability to create from our personal resource. The experiential revolution, when happens, will be a hallmark of our generation, forging a new way of life.

The Experiential Revolution starts as soon as we realise that the freedom of seeking an experience or providing one, regardless of when and where, is in our hand.

Forging the revolution — we lead the change by creating

Each of us is a creator. You are a creator, or you just don’t think you are one yet.

Everyday we go to work, we create something out of nothing. People create all kinds of things on a daily basis— an excel spreadsheet, an email, a piece of software, a drawing, a tune, a dish, the list goes on…

It isn’t confined in any form and definition. As long as you are alive, you create.

It can be a delightful conversation with a person next to you while waiting for a cappuccino. If you say “good day” to someone walking pass you and they smile— you create a feeling.

Each of us is a creator. You are a creator, or you just don’t think you are one yet.

From Resource to Experience

An Experience is a creation of such personal resource, added with some extra values and boxed nicely in. How you box it is what makes an activity an Experience — it can be a combination of your energy, your vibe and your presentation that makes a lasting effect.

An Experience Host is a composer of feeling, value and effect.

There really isn’t any status confinement for how one defines them as an experience host, too. If you are a perfumery expert, you are qualified. If you are a student doing illustration as a hobby, you are also qualified.

A revolution is a change in nature. Oftentimes, a change starts when awareness of the need for such a change arises.

LandedVibe can be Masterclass, and LandedVibe can be Fiverr. You can host an experience like Gordon Ramsay teaching his newest recipe to young chefs, or you can host an experience to entertain a bored neighbour down the street.

All it matters is whether you can see the need in others, can take the plunge to transform your versatile personal resource into an Experience, then commit to its values, practically and authentically.

Moreover, an Experience is a marketable activity which you will earn money by conducting it. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not a means for business, at least not solely. It is a reward for your time and validation for your knowledge as you lead your experience for others.

Be the spark you can be

At Vibeji, we believe that everyone of us is capable of becoming an experience host, and we can help with that. You can start with a passion, with a need to do something more, to create. We will give a hand in crafting it into a marketable experience.

If the Maslow’s Hierarchy ever holds true, then we are now more ready than ever to move towards polishing our self-esteem, scratching the itch for self-actualisation and placing our foot into the experiential revolution.

For that to happen, we need creators.

Can you be the spark?

Are you ready to tag along with us in making the change and forging the Experiential Revolution?
